Afghan air raids kill 14 insurgents in Kandahar province

A total of 14 militants were killed as fighter planes struck a Taliban hideout in Miwand district in southern Kandahar province, said an army statement released here on Wednesday.
Acting upon an intelligence report, the planes targeted the Taliban hideout in Miwand district at 11.50 p.m. (local time) on Tuesday, killing 14 insurgents on the spot and wounding two others, said the statement.
A weapons cache of the militants was also destroyed in the airstrikes, the statement said.
Taliban militants who are active in parts of Kandahar and neighbouring Helmand and Zabul provinces have yet to comment, Xinhua news agency reported.
