A city-based businessman and his brother were allegedly attacked and robbed of Rs.22 lakh by three assailants on a motorcycle at gunpoint here on Saturday, police said.
The incident occurred around 1 p.m. in south Delhi's Okhla Industrial area when the brothers Ramesh Kumar, 40, and Santosh Kumar, 35, came out from the Bank of India after withdrawing the money.
"Ramesh and Santosh had withdrawn Rs.22 lakh from Bank of India branch in Okhla. Three people riding on a bike approached them as soon as they came out of the bank and reached near their car. The culprits took away their money at gunpoint and fled the spot," Deputy Commissioner of Police Mandeep Singh Randhawa told IANS.
Randhawa said the brothers were also attacked with a heavy object before the robbers snatched away their money-filled bag.
"Both the brothers were hit on their head and other parts of the body. Ramesh received minor injuries while Santosh is being treated for critical injuries in a nearby hospital," the official added.
Another police official said the assailants fired in the air before attacking the businessmen.
"Prima facie it seems the attackers knew that the businessmen will withdraw a huge amount of money. Different police teams have been constituted to nab the culprits," the official added.
Police said the businessmen had reportedly planned to go to Noida to give the money to some of their business partners. - IANS
