The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended an elderly woman and seized over eight kg of silver from her possession near the Bangladesh border in West Bengal, an official said on Saturday.
Jahinna Biswas, 64, was held by the troopers of BSF's 113th battalion on Friday night from Gede - the last railway station and border checkpoint on the way to Bangladesh - in Nadia district of the state.
"We recovered 8.5 kg of silver granules from the possession of Jahinna Biswas. The accused, along with the seized silver suspected to be smuggled in from Bangladesh, has been handed over to the police and customs officials for further investigations," said a BSF officer.
The BSF has seized over 113 kg of silver worth over Rs.35 lakh and nabbed 15 smugglers from across the south Bengal frontier so far this year. - IANS
