US won't levy tariffs on Brazilian steel, aluminium: Bolsonaro
21-December-2019
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has said that the US would not levy tariffs on the country's steel and aluminium.
He made the announcement on Friday after a phone call with his American counterpart Donald Trump, reports Xinhua news agency
"A little while ago, I had the great satisfaction of receiving a phone call from Trump.
"(Trump) was convinced by my arguments, and he decided to tell all Brazilians that our steel and our aluminium will not have tariffs placed on them. I repeat, there will be no tariffs," Bolsonaro said in a social media post.
Brazil is one of the main suppliers of steel to the US.
On December 2, Trump had announced that the US would apply tariffs on steel and aluminium imports from Brazil and Argentina.IANS
