19-December-2019
The Samajwadi Party on Thursday defied prohibitory orders across Uttar Pradesh to register their protest against the Citizen Amendment Act (CAA).
In Lucknow, the SP legislators held protest at the Vidhan Bhawan before the assembly proceedings began. Sitting at the footsteps of the Chaudhary Charan Singh statue, SP legislators raised slogans against the citizenship law.
Party workers, meanwhile, collected at various points in the state capital and raised slogans against the citizenship law.
At some places, the police had to use mild force to disperse the mobs and hundreds of SP workers were arrested.
In other districts including Kanpur, Shamli, Azamgarh, Agra, Mathura and Kushinagar, similar protests were held and party leaders were taken into custody.
SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said that his party had defied the prohibitory orders to register their protest against the government's "black law".IANS
