UP assembly adjourned briefly amid SP, Cong uproar
18-December-2019
The opposition parties Wednesday forced adjournment of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly for an hour when they insisted on discussing the murder in the Bijnor court room, increasing cases of rape and also the issues raised by BJP MLA Nand Kishore Gujjar.
As soon as the House assembled, leader of opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary said that the state was in a state of anarchy and the government was ignoring issues.
"Rape cases are being reported with an alarming regularity, there has been a murder inside a courtroom and a Legislator has also raised the issue of an arrogant bureaucracy. We demand a discussion on this immediately," he said.
Uttar Pradesh Minister Swami Prasad Maurya said that the opposition was bent on wasting the time of the State Legislature by talking about non issues. "They have turned this House into a joke," he said.
Samajwadi and Congress Legislators barged into the well of the House shouting slogans after which the Speaker adjourned the House for one hour.
The Bahujan Samaj Party, interestingly, did not join in the protests.
Later, talking to reporters, Leader of Opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary said that the government was shying away from answering the questions of the opposition.
"Whether it is the scam or the rapid deterioration in the law and order situation, the government has no answers," he said.IANS
