The Delhi Police did not fire a single bullet during the violent protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act at Jamia Millia Islamia on Sunday, Home Ministry officials said on Tuesday.

On the police arresting 10 people for indulging in arson and setting vehicles afire during protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, ministry sources said all 10 persons detained have a criminal background.

"No bullet was fired by the Delhi Police during protests at Jamia. All 10 persons detained have a criminal background. More anti-social elements are being tracked," an official said.

On Sunday, hundreds of Jamia students protested against the CAA, which led to the torching of four DTC buses and two police vehicles.

Police reportedly entered the Jamia library and hostels and detained scores of students. Students have alleged that the police opened fire on the protesters.

On Monday, the Delhi Police registered two separate cases against unknown people for arson and rioting.

The police said raids are being carried out in various parts of Delhi to nab those who indulged in violence during the protests.IANS
