Man said to be Manipur CM's brother abducted, freed

Miscreants, posing as CBI officers, abducted a 43-year-old man Tongbram Lukhoi Singh, said to be the brother of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, by wielding fake guns from a multi-storied apartment in the north eastern fringes of the city, police sources said on Saturday.

However, police rescued Singh and arrested all the five alleged abuducters within a short while.

The five men barged into Singh's posh rented accommodation in the New Town area on Friday and forced him and one his associates to accompany them after claiming they were Central Bureau of Investigation officers. The two were then asked to get into two waiting cars which sped off.

Soon after, Singh's wife received a call where the caller asked for a Rs 15 lakh ransom.

She, however, filed a police complaint, following which the cops traced the registration numbers of the two cars from CCTV footage of the locality and managed to track down the vehicles after alerting all police stations and traffic guard, as also the detective department.

All the five men were arrested and the vehicles seized.

The toy guns used by the miscreants were also seized.

Two of the accused hail from Manipur, one was from Punjab. Two others are locals.

They were all been interrogated, with police calling it a crime for monetary gain.IANS
