While in the top 200 there are only three from India and in the top 500 there are only nine Indian varsities. Also, 23 Indian universities found place in the top 1,000 list.

Mittal was speaking at a pre-event press conference ahead of the West Zone Vice Chancellors' Meet scheduled to be held in Jaipur on December 11 and 12 at the Shipra Path situated IIS Auditorium.

The meet will be inaugurated by Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. The guest of honour on the occasion will be the Rajasthan Minister of Higher Education, Bhanwar Singh Bhati.

The theme of the meeting is 'Internationalization of Higher Education and Global Rankings'. The meet is being hosted by IIS (Deemed to be University).

In the 2-day meeting, all issues related to improving the quality of higher education and making it world-class will be discussed. This will be possible by ensuring outcome based education, students and staff mobility, research and institutional collaboration, global marketing of our education modules and large investment on higher education, she said.

The Vice Chancellor of IIS (Deemed to be University), Dr. Ashok Gupta, said the students need to be internationally mobile dealing with cross cultures and borders to have successful careers. To provide a smooth path for students, the higher education system of the country needs many reforms. Most importantly, we need to make India an educational hub of world class quality institutions and enter the top ranks in world ranking of universities.IANS
