Take action against auctioning of local body posts: TN poll body

Tamil Nadu State Election Commission (TNSEC) on Tuesday asked district election official and the district administration to take legal action against auctioning of local body posts.
In a statement issued here, the TNSEC said it has asked the district administration and the district election official to take action against auctioning of the local body posts and also educate the people to desist from such acts.
The TNSEC referring to news reports about some local body posts being auctioned in favour of highest bidder expressed its concern against these undemocratic acts.
The TNSEC has announced elections for rural local bodies on December 27 and 30.
As per the auction system, aspiring candidates would promise to spend a sum towards repairs towards village temple and other works. The villagers would resolve that person would get elected unopposed.
According to reports, villagers in two different panchayats in Cuddalore district had agreed not to contest against two aspirants who had promised to repair the temple and carry out other developmental works.IANS
