WADA ban on Russia evokes funny responses on Twitter
09-December-2019
As Russia was handed a four-year ban from all major sporting events by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on Friday, the issue trended on Twitter with #Russia garnering 9,701 tweets.
The country will miss, among other international events, next year's Tokyo Olympics and the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
One Twitter user posted: "Why are they not missing Euro2020?"
Another user posted a meme of a 'crying' Russian President Vladimir Putin while another posted a meme of a facepalm by a girl.
One user commented: "Russia banned for four years. Because of doping, not its wars."
There were humorous replies too to the development.
One user said: "WADA bans Russia from Olympics and World Championships for 4 years. Wonder how long it will take @realDonaldTrump to come to Putin's rescue here and threaten to pull out of WAPA unless Russia sanctions are reversed?"
One post read: "Russia banned from 2020 Olympics & 2022 World Cup. However, (British) PM Boris Johnson confirms they are still eligible to compete in British elections."IANS
