Train, sensitise workers for sewer cleaning: PWD to engineers
29-November-2019
Days after two sanitation workers died while cleaning a drain in the national capital, the Public Works Department (PWD) has asked its engineers to train and sensitise the contractors and workers involved in sewer cleaning about the rules and safety measures for the cleaning of sewers.
"There are rules and safety instructions for sewer cleaning. We feel the rules were not followed while cleaning the sewer which led to the death of two sanitation workers while a few others fell sick," a PWD official told IANS.
The department has asked the engineers to organises training camps for the contractors to create awareness among them about the safety measures.
"We have re-issued the directions that the safety measures have to be followed strictly," the official said.
