5.1-magnitude quake hits Bihar
27-April-2015
Two days after an earthquake jolted Bihar, another temblor, measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale, rocked the state on Monday. Damage to property was reported from various places, but there was no report of any casualty, an official here said.
With the earthquake again rocking Bihar on Monday at 6.05 p.m., it has created further panic among the people and strengthened rumours in the social media about a temblor striking again.
The official death toll has gone up to 57 and reports of cracks in houses came in from across the state, said Vyasji, principal secretary, State Disaster Management, Bihar.
However, unconfirmed reports put the death toll at over 70.
Hundreds of people have taken shelter in Gandhi Maidan in Patna since Saturday. They are not ready to move or return to their homes following the earthquake and its aftershocks.
The fear-stricken people were still staying in parks and open fields near their houses on the third day after the earthquake, the official added.
Schools and coaching groups remained closed on Monday across Bihar and they will remain shut on Tuesday as well. - IANS
