Pakistan shows disappointment over US report on terror
06-November-2019
Pakistan has expressed disappointment over a US report that criticised its failure to tame militant outfits, like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The US report ignored the situation on the ground, it said.
A statement by Pakistan foreign Office said, "Pakistan is disappointed with assertions made in the US Department of State's Country Report on Terrorism 2018."
"The report overlooks the factual situation and the contribution made and sacrifices rendered by Pakistan over the last two decades in the international struggle against terrorism. Our efforts have not only eliminated terror organisation Al Qaeda from the region, but have also made the world a safer place," it said.
The US State Department report said Pakistan had implemented international standards to combat money laundering and terror financing and also criminalised such acts but the "implementation remains uneven".
Pakistan had not taken enough measures against "externally focused groups, like LeT and JeM, which continued to operate, train, organise and raise fund in the country," it said.
Pakistan's foreign office, however, has not mentioned why terror groups, like LeT and JeM, continued to operate on its soil.IANS
