Agitation will stop if guilty cops arrested: BCD tells HC
06-November-2019
The Bar Council of Delhi on Wednesday told the Delhi High Court on Wednesday that the lawyers' agitation would stop if the responsible police officials are arrested.
"The agitation will calm down the moment guilty police officials are arrested and charged under Section 307 IPC," BCD chairperson K.C. Mittal told a division bench of the High Court presided by Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice C. Harishankar.
The submissions came while the court was hearing two pleas filed by the Home Ministry and Delhi Police in connection with the High Court's November 3 order with regard to the violence and clashes at the Tis Hazari Court.
The Bar Council of India told the court that in the Saket court incident, the police lodged an FIR under section 392 which refers to dacoity, against the lawyers.
"This is abuse of their power. Police should not be given any further power to lodge FIRs in this matter before the prior permission of this court or the judicial enquiry," said Manan Kumar Mishra, Chairman, Bar Council of India (BCI).
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) pushed for a ban on the media from covering the situation.
"Media is painting a section of lawyers in black. They are committing contempt of court by claiming that the court's order was biased. Media should be banned from reporting this," said Rakesh Khanna, President, Supreme Court Bar Association.
After the arguments were completed, the court dismissed both the pleas.IANS
