CPCB finds action on Delhi-NCR pollution 'sub-optimal'

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has found that the actions taken by implementing agencies on pollution complaints in the Delhi-NCR region have not been up to the mark.

The agencies have been asked to resolve all the pending complaints within the next 24 hours. They have also been asked to intensify the actions on the ground to control polluting activities such as waste burning, road dust, dust from the construction and demolition activities, traffic congestion, etc., and also strengthen their own monitoring mechanism.

The meeting was called to discuss the pollution in Delhi NCR which has been in severe category since the evening of Tuesday.

The CPCB called the meeting on Wednesday with implementing agencies and state pollution control board (SPCB) and Pollution Control Committees (PCC) to review the status.

The meeting was chaired by Prashant Gargava, Member Secretary, CPCB and the participants were apprised of the current air quality and meteorological conditions.

The need to intensify the ground actions and quick actions to curb polluting activities was emphasized. CPCB officials gave details about the complaint redress status of various regions and major polluting causes. The feedback of the CPCB teams deployed in the field were also shared with the agencies.

The CPCB has observed that the actions taken by the agencies to resolve the complaints were sub-optimal. The agencies have been asked to resolve all the pending complaints within the next 24 hours. IANS
