Fuel prices surge after a day's breather

Petrol and diesel prices were hiked on Thursday after a day's break. In Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai, the petrol and diesel rates have increased by six paisa and seven paisa, respectively.
The oil distributing companies, after a pause on Wednesday, increased the prices again, which came into effect from Thursday. The rest of the country has also registered hikes in fuel prices.
As per the Indian Oil website, after the hike, the rates of petrol in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai arew Rs 74.19/litre, Rs 76.88/litre, Rs 79.85/litre and Rs 77.12/litre. respectively. Similarly, the diesel rates are Rs 67.14/litre, Rs 69.56/litre, Rs 70.44/litre and Rs 70.98/litre, respectively.
Fuel prices have been on the surge for the past over a week since the drone attack on Saudi Arabian oil fields on September 14. The crude oil prices in the international market started to rise from September 16.
The rise in the crude oil price has led to an increase of over Rs 2 per litre in petrol rates and Rs 1.70 in diesel in Delhi. Other cities have also seen a big surge in the rates.
