SC to hear pleas challenging amendments to SC/ST Act Oct 3
25-September-2019
The Supreme Court on Wednesday said petitions challenging the validity of amendments to the SC/ST Act would be heard on October 3.
The 2018 amendments said no preliminary inquiry would be necessary for registering a criminal case and arrest under the law would not be subject to any approval.
Meanwhile, the apex court said it would not accept any written submissions from any party on the Centre's plea seeking recall of its 2018 judgment, which virtually diluted the stringent provisions of immediate arrest and no anticipatory bail for the accused on a complaint filed under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Earlier, the top court had reserved order on the Centre's plea seeking to recall 2018 judgement.IANS
