07-September-2019
Eight people were awarded life-terms by special court in a case of murder of a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader and his two associates in Jhansi on December 2006.
The court on Friday also slapped Rs 1.18 lakh and Rs 1.16 lakh fines on two convicts, the public prosecutor said here on Saturday.
BJYM leader Manoj Kumar and two of his associates were returning home in a car when some people fired indiscriminately at them. Three people, including Manoj Kumar, were killed on the spot and two others were injured.
While one accused died during the trial, one is absconding.
The murder is believed to have been an outcome of the fight for supremacy in the area. One of the convict is a former block president, while his convicted son is block president.IANS
