Two members of the 'Bawaria gang' wanted in multiple cases of dacoity were arrested after a brief encounter on Friday night in Dadri area of Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar district, Noida Police said on Saturday.
Police said Rakhi Singh alias Rahul and Bhaal Singh were wanted for their alleged involvement in multiple cases of dacoity in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Raj Kumar Mishra, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Special Task Force, said the duo had also carried out a dacoity in a village in Mathura in 2015.
"They had struck a block head's house and opened fire at an elderly woman, leaving her severely wounded. They had also shot at the block head's brothers, besides wounding others while fleeing," Mishra said.
A case under sections 395 (dacoity) and 307 (attempted murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against them in Mathura and a reward of Rs 50,000 was announced on any information leading to their arrest, the police officer said.
He said Rakhi was also wanted in at least half a dozen cases of dacoity in and around Rajasthan's Bharatpur district.
"Rakhi has been active since 2009 and has a long criminal history. But he has been arrested for the first time," Mishra said.
Two firearms, ammunition, face masks, lock cutter and surgical gloves were among the items recovered from the duo, he said, adding that they are in police custody and further proceedings are underway.
