A class X student, Aditya Raj, was thrashed on Janmashtami following an altercation over plucking of few leaves from a tree in the Burari area of north Delhi. The boy is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
According to the police, Aditya, his cousins and a neighbour were returning from a temple in Chandan Vihar after Janmasthami celebrations. One of the boys plucked a few leaves from an Ashoka tree.
One of the accused, Vinod, was consuming alcohol in his car nearby. He started harassing them by driving his car back and forth. They all tried to escape, but Vinod caught Adarsh, Aditya's cousin, at the entrance of Chandan Vihar and started hitting him.
On this Aditya and his other cousins intervened. But Vinod was joined by a man, carrying a stick. He hit Aditya on head with stick several times, claiming they were thieves, the police said.
A case had been registered under section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the IPC, punishable with a maximum 7-year jail and fine, the police said and added, a team had been set up to nab the accused.
While they were absconding, one of them moved the court for an anticipatory bail, which was denied, said a police officer. IANS
