Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, here on Tuesday, lambasted the Akalis for "perverse and desperate attempts" to obstruct probe into the Bargari sacrilege case.

He said his government had moved the court against the CBI closure report to enable the state pursue the probe to its logical conclusion.

At an informal interaction with the media, he said then SAD-BJP government had deliberately handed over the case to the CBI and the agency followed its masters' wished by closing the case without completing the probe.

Replying to a question, Singh lashed out at Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal for trying to manipulate facts about Rajiv Gandhi in the context of 1984 riots.

Sukhbir was in the USA at that time and had no clue what was happening in India, he said and added, he had the habit of blabbering about anything and everything.

On the India-Pakistan relations, the Chief Minister hoped Islamabad would honour its commitment and complete the Kartarpur Corridor as planned.

He said the damage due to floods in Punjab was estimated to be Rs 1,700 crore. The state was geared to meet any eventuality and would safeguard the lives of people at all costs, he added.IANS
