Police have arrested two drug peddlers with 40 kg of 'ganja' while they were transporting it in a SUV here, an official said on Friday.
A team headed by Inspector Girish Kumar, in charge of the Narcotics Squad, on Thursday intercepted the SUV on a tip off near Andrews Ganj on Ring Road, Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Kumar said.
Two men, Jeyadul Haque, 32, and Rafique, 34, tried to escape after leaving behind the SUV but were caught. Four bags containing the cannabis were recovered from the vehicle, Kumar said.
Haque and Rafique are relatives and residents of the same village in Cooch Behar in West Bengal, he added.
Investigation showed that Haque was involved in supplying ganja for many years. He was arrested for the first time about 12 years back at Varanasi. Rafique was arrested in Gurugram four years back with 5 kg of cannabis, Kumar said.
The two were active in supplying drugs in Delhi and adjoining districts. IANS
