BMW crash: Accused sentenced to 2-year jail after 7 years

Seven years after an accident in which two people were killed and three others injured, additional district and session judge of Gurugram civil court Antarpreet Kaur, here on Tuesday, sentenced the errant driver to two-year jail for rash and negligent driving.
The accident took place outside Iffco Tokyo Tower, near Leisure Valley ground, on May 5, 2012, when Suraj Ahlawat (minor then), accompanied by his school friend, rammed his over-speeding BMW car (HR 26 AV 0007) into a cab in which Rajendra Kumar (67), his wife Veena, daughter Chhama and son-in-law Sailash were returning to Delhi after visiting Medanta Hospital.
Chhama, who was pregnant, and cab driver Sailash were killed and the other three suffered serious injuries in the accident.
Jagbir Sehrawat, public prosecutor, said, the judge gave the decision on the basis of available facts, statements of injured and eyewitnesses.
"The accused, now a businessman, had served some months in children observation home. Now he will have to serve two years imprisonment. The court, however, has granted bail to him," he said. IANS
