CBI gets Deepak Talwar's 7-day custody
26-July-2019
Corporate lobbyist Deepak Talwar was on Friday sent to seven-day CBI custody in the airline seat-sharing case.
Special CBI Judge Anil Kumar Sisodia awarded seven-day custody of the accused to the investigating agency.
Earlier in the day, the court denied anticipatory bail application filed by Talwar through his counsel Tanveer Ahmed Mir.
Talwar was produced before the court. He is currently in judicial custody in the ED case of illicit aviation deal in Tihar Jail.
During the course of hearing, the CBI told the court that it wanted to confront Talwar with voluminous documents.
Objecting, Talwar's counsel argued that the arrest memo is in violation with the mandatory guidelines ahead of arrest.
"No report has been put on record," he added.
"Talwar is Ill. He is diabetic and is a victim of a bypass surgery. He should be permitted to meet lawyer and family if custody is granted," Mir said further.
The prosecution has alleged that Deepak Talwar, who is currently lodged in Tihar jail, allegedly acted as a middleman to favour foreign private airlines, causing huge loss to national carrier Air India.
It is alleged that Air India suffered loss after its profitable routes were given to private airlines from the Middle East.IANS
