Mumbai based company Linkus Infratech has appointed former Indian Army Captain, S.M. Ghag to take care of emergencies on its hyper-local connectivity app called "Bhonga".

"Bhonga" is a word in Marathi language that means megaphone or loudspeaker.

The app, launched in March, connects users in Mumbai to people in their neighbourhood even without an Internet connection.

"The app is a citizen empowerment movement and ex-servicemen monitoring the emergencies adds immense value to the platform. We plan to have 37 ex-servicemen monitoring every constituency of Mumbai on our payrolls by the end of 2020-21," said Radhika Agarwal, Director, Linkus Infratech.

After 32 years of service in the Indian Army, Ghag will now be able to guide people in situations of emergencies in Mumbai.

"I am honoured to be a part of the platform and will be happy to reach out to Mumbaikars facing any challenge," said Ghag.

In the coming future, Linkus Infratech plans to partner with the Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO) under the Ministry of Defence so that army veterans can help civilians in time of need.

To help the community, "Bhonga" is in the process of collaborating with several non-profit partners like blood-banks, ambulances and other services that could help people in emergency situations.

The app is available for Android as well as iOS users and supports Hindi and English languages.  IANS
