The Crime Branch of the Gurugram Police has arrested three cricket bookies from a hotel in Gurugram's upscale Palam Vihar.
According to officials, Gulshan, Chirag and Mahendra were caught while they were taking betting orders during the ICC World Cup final match between England and New Zeeland on Sunday night. They were operating from room number 203 of an OYO hotel.
The Crime Branch officials also seized five mobile phones, an LED TV, a laptop, a set top box, a calculator, two note pads and a pen from their possession. All three are residents of old Gurugram.
"During interrogation, the accused revealed that they were taking bidding orders from their clients using mobile phone and circulating the results through Whatsapp. They had special Whatsapp group for the purpose. They received orders and updated the results after every over," said Subhash Bokan, PRO of Gurugram Police.
"The accused have been booked for gambling under relevant sections of the IPC. Crime Branch officials are now verifying the identity of their clients and their possible links to an organised betting syndicate," he said. IANS
