Opposition disrupts Bihar Assembly over floods
15-July-2019
Opposition RJD, Congress and CPI-ML on Monday disrupted proceedings in the Bihar Assembly over the grim flood situation in the state, demanding a special discussion during the question hour.
Members of the RJD, Congress and CPI-ML also staged a protest outside the Assembly and shouted slogans, holding placards.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA Bhai Virendra said that a special discussion on the flood situation was the need of the hour as 18 lakh people have been affected by the floods and over two dozen people have died so far.
"The flood victims are fighting for survival. Relief and rescue operations are very slow. People are facing food and drinking water shortages, there is shortage of fodder for the cattle," he said.
Floods have affected nine of the 38 districts so far in the state.
Virendra said that the government, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, was not sensitive towards the problems and the victims. IANS
