14-July-2019
On the second day of the 'Swachhata Abhiyan' inside Parliament House complex on Sunday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urged the MPs to work towards fulfilment of Mahatma Gandhi's cleanliness mission.
The Speaker himself undertook cleaning of Parliament premises and also visited different floors of the building to oversee the progress of the cleanliness drive.
"Along with the freedom struggle, Mahatma Gandhi started the Swachhata Jan Andolan (cleanliness movement) in India. On his 150th birth anniversary this year, we wish the country fulfils his vision and becomes clean," Birla said.
"Members of Parliament as well as public representatives are urged to work and take forward the message of the movement from Parliament to every village and town," he added.
Union Minister of Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and several other MPs enthusiastically participated in the drive for which Parliament House Estate was divided into seven sectors under designated nodal officers for monitoring. IANS
