28-June-2019
Deepika Soni from IIT-Gandhinagar is among the 10 students across the country who have been awarded the Cargill Global Scholarship for the year 2019-20.
It is a two-year scholarship program that provides financial support to undergraduate students, according to an official statement issued by IIT-Gn.
As a recipient of the scholarship, Soni will receive a scholarship award of up to $2,500 (Rs 1.73 lakh) per annum for up to two years.
An electrical engineering student from the Indian Institute of Technology-Gandhinagar, Soni will get an opportunity that the Cargill Global Scholars Program offers, including leadership development through seminars, networking events, case study presentations and a one-on-one mentoring program.
Overwhelmed on receiving the scholarship, she said: "I feel extremely proud and happy about getting selected as one of the Cargill Global Scholar for this year. Besides receiving the scholarship money for two years, it will also help me to get a global perspective on the issues we are currently struggling with and help me do my bit," she said.
"I will be attending an In-country Seminar this year in September and a Global Seminar next year around the same time. I look forward to this opportunity and am enthusiastic and excited to meet my fellow scholars from all over India and the world," she added.
Cargill, a US agri and food conglomerate, in association with the Institute of International Education (IIE), a not-for-profit organization which administers more than 250 education and scholarship programs, has set up the competition cycle of the CGSP in five countries -- Brazil, India, Russia, Indonesia and the US.
