Group show of modern Indian art masters' works in Delhi

New Delhi

26-June-2019

Works of modern Indian art masters - Sayed Haider Raza, Maqbool Fida Husain, Ram Kumar, Akbar Padamsee, and Krishen Khanna - will be showcased in a unique exhibition here starting Sunday.

Titled 'Sang Saath', the group show brings together these famed modernist artists in one space to highlight their "togetherness in art", reflecting their confluence in the Bombay Progressive Artists' Group in 1947.

"Rooted in tradition, their vision and practice acknowledged and celebrated plurality of vision, idioms, styles and most of them remained friends throughout their life and career.

"This togetherness was marked by dialogue, correspondence, criticism and enduring warmth and care for each other," organiser Raza Foundation said in a note on the show.

The Foundation has also published many of the exchanged letters and other documents Raza brought with himself when he returned to India.

The exhibition will also feature artworks of Raza's wife, Janine Mongillat, who he married when he lived in France for nearly six decades.

'Sang Saath' marks the third death anniversary of Raza (1922-2016), and aims to celebrate the lifelong creative camaraderie between these art masters.

It will be the first public display of many works including an early figurative of Raza, the organisers said.

The exhibition has been organised by the Raza Foundation and Vadehra Art Gallery. It will run from June 30-July 11 at the Shridharani Art Gallery of Triveni Kala Sangam here.IANS
