The police have arrested a man from Jammu and Kashmir who passed obscene comments about the widow of slain CRPF trooper Sunil Kalita who was recently killed in Maoist violence in Jharkhand.
The Crime Branch of the Assam Police, with the help of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, arrested Syed Abbass on Saturday, a statement issued by the Assam Chief Minister's Office said here on Tuesday.
The Assam Police swung into action after Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal directed the police to take stern action against the accused, it added.
Abbass had posted derogatory comments about Kalita's widow on a Facebook page of television channel News Live while she was paying tributes and saluting her slain husband during his last rites.
"One Ramen Barua lodged an FIR with Kamalpur Police Station on June 15 regarding the issue. A case was then registered and police station officer in-charge Mrinal Das was directed to lead a three-member team to Jammu and Kashmir," the statement said.
The accused was produced at Damhal Hanji Pora Court in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district on June 22 and handed over on an eight-day transit remand to the Assam Police team. IANS
