TRS retains Medak Lok Sabha seat
16-September-2014
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has retained the Medak Lok Sabha seat in Telangana, although with a lesser majority compared to the general elections.
TRS candidate K. Prabhakar Reddy defeated his nearest rival V. Sunitha Lakshma Reddy of Congress party by 361,277 votes.
Jagga Reddy of Bharatiya Janata Party-Telugu Desam Party combine finished third.
Prabhakar Reddy polled 571,800 votes while Sunitha secured 210,523 votes. Jagga Reddy got 186,334 votes.
About 67 percent of the 15.43 lakh voters had cast their votes in the by-poll held Saturday in the constituency, which was once represented by late prime minister Indira Gandhi.
The by-election was conducted due to the resignation of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who had won the seat in the general elections by a margin of 3.97 lakh votes. Sharavan Kumar of Congress had finished second.
Medak is the native district of Chandrasekhar Rao, who was elected both from Medak Lok Sabha and Gajwel assembly seats. He retained the assembly seat as TRS stormed to power in the newly-created state. - IANS
