Five policemen were suspended on Wednesday after the death of a man at a police station in Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal.
Family members allege that Sivam Mishra died late on Tuesday night after being beaten up in police custody at Bairagarh's Sant Hridayram Nagar police station.
According to the police, Mishra and a friend were brought to the police station after their car hit the bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor in Lal Ghati area.
Family members allege that Mishra was hospitalised after he passed away following a severe beating in police custody. "His body has marks of severe beating and his belongings -- a gold chain, cash and mobile phone -- are missing," said his family.
Officials said Inspector General, Bhopal Zone, Yogesh Deshmukh himself carried out an inspection at the Sant Hridayram Nagar police station and scanned its CCTV records and thereafter suspended five policemen, including the police station in-charge. IANS
