Porbandar to get marine police training centre

A marine police training centre will come up in Gujarat's Porbandar city, the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said Wednesday.
On his maiden visit to Gujarat after becoming minister in May, Rajnath Singh also paid homage to the Mahatma by visiting Kirti Mandir, the house where Gandhi was born.
The minister, on a two-day trip, said additional security measures were being taken along Gujarat's land and sea border with Pakistan.
The marine police training centre will enhance security in the state's coastal areas, he said.
According to officials, Rajnath Singh will visit the Kutch border Thursday and review the security situation.
He will meet Border Security Force troopers at Lakhpat in the western tip of the Kutch border.
Gujarat has a coastline of some 1,600 km. Three districts border Pakistan: Kutch, Banaskantha and Patan.
The state has 512 km of land border with Pakistan, of which 80 km are not fenced.
The minster may also visit Sir Creek, which is disputed by India and Pakistan.
