Trainee IPS officer drowns at police academy in Hyderabad

A trainee police officer died under suspicious circumstances at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (NPA) here, sources said Friday.
Manu Mukt Manav, a trainee Indian Police Service (IPS) officer allotted the Himachal Pradesh cadre, reportedly drowned in the swimming pool Thursday during a party of trainee officers in the academy campus at Shivrampally.
The 30-year-old trainee officer from Haryana was taken to a private hospital in Banjara Hills, where doctors declared him dead.
The party was held to mark the completion of training and it continued till midnight. After the party, Manav went to the swimming pool along with another trainee officer.
The body was later shifted to government-run Osmania General Hospital, where an autopsy was conducted. It was handed over to his family members who rushed to Hyderabad.
It was immediately not clear how Manav drowned.
Academy director Aruna Bahugana ordered an internal probe into the incident, while Rajendernagar police station under Cyberabad police commissionerate registered a case and launched an investigation. - IANS
