Monsoon arrives in Delhi

The monsoon finally arrived in the national capital Thursday, with rains bringing down the temperature and giving respite from heat waves.

The Met Office forecasts more rains Friday. "Monsoon has finally hit Delhi and there will be constant rains for the next few days," M. Durai Swamy of the India Meteorological Department told IANS.

The Met Office had forecast that monsoon would reach Delhi by June 29.

The monsoon rains flooded streets in different parts of the city, leading to traffic jams.

Water logging was reported from Delhi University's north campus, Civil Lines, G.T.B Nagar in north Delhi; Lajpat Nagar, Mool Chand Metro station, Moti Nagar and Green Park in south Delhi and Rajouri Garden and Rohini in west Delhi.

In east Delhi, water logging was witnessed in Patparganj, Kondli, Gokalpuri and Seemapuri areas.

So far the city has received 5.5 mm of rainfall. The day's maximum temperature settled three notches below average at 32.7 degrees Celsius. While the minimum temperature was recorded a notch below average at 26.1 degrees Celsius.

The day's humidity hovered between 85 and 71 percent. - IANS
