The police on Friday rejected singer Chinmayi Sripaada's request to hold a protest demonstration on May 12 against the clean chit given to Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi in an alleged sexual harassment case.

According to the police order, which was uploaded by Sripaada in her twitter handle, "The purpose of protest against the order of the Hon'ble Supreme Court amounts to judicial interference and it is purely a judicial contempt. Further, it will create wrong assumption against the judicial system and will create law and order problem/disharmony."

Later Sripaada tweeted: "A protest to ask for due process to be followed in a sexual harassment case involving a hearing impaired woman and the most powerful man in the country will create a law and order problem. Hmm."

"Dear women, Do make sure you don't get sexually harassed by any powerful man in the country. They won't follow due process and they'll further victimise you. Oh BTW, please wear a Dupatta else society here will make memes on how you asked for it," read another tweet.

The Supreme Court appointed three-judge in-house committee probing the allegations of sexual harassment against Gogoi had on Monday given a clean chit to the CJI in the matter.

A statement issued by the top court said: "The in-house committee has found no substance in the allegations contained in the complaint dated April 19, 2019, of a former employee of the Supreme Court of India."
