24-June-2014
The total number of Ukrainian refugees living in temporary accommodation in Russia exceeds 14,000, the Russian ministry of emergency situations said Tuesday.
"A total of 211 temporary accommodation sites have been established, with over 14,200 people with nearly 6,500 children, living in them," Xinhua quoted a ministry spokesman as saying.
"Six more mobile temporary accommodation sites have been set up with a capacity of 3,000 people."
Russia's Rostov region and Crimea have the largest number of refugees.
The Russian ministry of emergency situations and regional governments have jointly worked to help the refugees.
"Six 'air bridges' have been established for the transfer of people to other regions of the Central and Southern Federal Districts," the spokesman said.
The ministry also ordered convoys to make sure refugees can reach the temporary settlements safely.
Moreover, over 250 tonnes of humanitarian cargo has been delivered to the violence-hit areas of Ukraine, the spokesman said. - IANS
