Chaos at Rahul Gandhi rally in Bengal, no one hurt
23-March-2019
It was complete chaos at Congress President Rahul Gandhi's rally in West Bengal's Malda district on Saturday as a massive crowd had gathered at the venue to hear him, a Congress leader said.
A number of senior Congress leaders, including party's Bengal unit President Somen Mitra and Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, were present on the dais along with Gandhi.
Several people at the Kolom Bagan Ground in Malda's Chanchal area rushed into the VIP enclosure by jumping barricades, making it difficult for the police and Congress volunteers to handle the crowd at Gandhi's rally.
A group of people were seen throwing at each other chairs, kept in front of the stage for the local Congress leaders.
"The space was limited. Many people had come to see their beloved leaders. Our volunteers and police handled the situation well. No one was injured," state Congress leader Amitabha Chakraborty told IANS.
Many senior Congress leaders, including former party MP Deepa Dasmunsi, appealed repeatedly the people to sit down and maintain calm. - IANS
