Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi Tuesday said his party will provide free medicines to the poor and create facilities for free surgical operations if voted to power in the Lok Sabha election.
Addressing a rally here, Gandhi said poor people suffered due to expenses they incurred on medical treatment.
"(If) Congress wins the polls in 2014, then we will provide for free medicine and free operation to the poor," Gandhi said.
He said similar medical treatment facilities will also be extended to women.
Gandhi also said the Congress government will work to provide a roof to every poor person.
"There will be a strong roof over the house of every poor," he said.
