Governor: Nagaland government committed to facilitate early resolution to the Naga insurgency
21-February-2019
Nagaland Governor P.B. Acharya on Thursday said the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party-led People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) government is committed to facilitating an early resolution for the vexed Naga insurgency through a negotiated agreement.
"The People's Democratic Alliance government is committed to facilitate an early resolution of the Indo-Naga political issue through a negotiated agreement that honours the unique history and rights of the Nagas," he said in his address at the beginning of the Budget Session.
Acharya said the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the government along with PDA legislators had a joint consultative meeting with Naga tribal chiefs and civil society organizations and resolved to urge all Naga insurgent groups to join the peace talks in order to achieve an inclusive solution.
A Joint Legislators Forum was also reconstituted to pursue the Naga insurgency issue to its logical conclusion, the Governor told the legislators.
Acharya also appreciated the efforts made by the Central government for ensuring that we "move closer to a solution that is inclusive, honorable and acceptable to Nagas".
Noting that Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, was of serious concern to all sections, Acharya said the government is also aware of the threat that is posed to our society by illegal migrants in the state.
