Will give my best shot: Gavaskar
28-March-2014
Cricket legend and former India captain Sunil Gavaskar said Friday that he would give his best as the Supreme Court appointed him the interim chief of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) replacing tainted incumbent N. Srinivasan.
"I am deeply humbled and honoured that the Honourable Supreme Court of India has entrusted me with the job of being the Interim President of the BCCI till the end of IPL 7. Like with my cricket, I will give it my best shot," said Gavaskar in a statement.
A Supreme Court bench headed by Justice A.K. Patnaik said Gavaskar will only be in charge of the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting April 16 in the UAE and asked vice president Shivlal Yadav to oversee the rest of the BCCI's work.
The court said Gavaskar would no more be a BCCI-contracted cricket commentator and the board would adequately compensate him for this. - IANS
