Demand for speedy probe into murder of TCS woman techie
24-February-2014
Save Tamils Movement, a Chennai based forum of IT professionals, has announced that it would stage a demonstration demanding justice and speedy investigation into the suspected murder of a 24-year-old software engineer Uma Maheswari.
Uma, an employee of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) at Siruseri SIPCOT IT Park, went missing on the night of February 13, after she got permission to leave the office early.
It is alleged that police refused to register a complaint from her father the next day and even suggested to him that she might have eloped with someone.
Locals spotted Uma’s decomposed body Friday at a deserted place hardly 200 metres from her office.
Save Tamils Movement Spokesperson S Elangovan said the incident “has sent shock waves across the IT sector and especially among women employees who fear for their safety and security at work.”
He said they have deputed a fact-finding team to collect more information about the security details in the SIPCOT campus.
Elangovan said the demonstration would be held near the Siruseri SIPCOT entrance this evening. He said techies from TCS, CTS, Infosys, Polaris , HCL , CSC and other IT firms in the IT corridor are expected to participate in the protest. - TWL Bureau
