Muzaffarpur shelter home demolition begins
13-December-2018
The demolition of the infamous shelter home of Brajesh Thakur in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district began on Thursday, officials said. Thakur is the key accused in the Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case in which 34 girls, most of them children, were assaulted over a period of time.
"Demolition work of the shelter home and Thakur's residence has started. It was delayed by three days as it was expected to start on Tuesday," Suresh Kumar Sinha, an official of Muzaffarpur municipal corporation, said.
He said the demolition work began after the Supreme Court refused to entertain a petition for a stay filed by Thakur, currently lodged in Patiala Jail in Punjab.
Last month, the Muzaffarpur Municipal Commissioner issued the demolition order on the ground of violation of building by-laws.
A three-storey building was constructed by Thakur whereas the permission was granted for a one-storey building.
According to officials, the cost of demolition will be met from the auction of goods in the shelter home.
