Sarpanch among five killed in road accident in Haryana

Five people, including a sarpanch and a lawyer, were killed and one critically injured in a road accident on Monday in Rewari, 60 km from here, police said.
The accident occurred near Saharanwas village, 5 km from Rewari town, on the Mahendragarh-Narnaul route in Haryana.
Police said that a Maruti Ertiga, which was heading towards Rewari, overturned after first colliding with the road divider and then with a pickup van coming from the opposite carriageway. All the deceased were residents of different villages of Rewari.
Both vehicles had three occupants each.
"Five people were killed on the spot, the driver of the pickup is in a critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment in a private hospital," a senior police officer said.
"Occupants in the Maruti Ertiga were returning from a marriage ceremony. The deceased have been identified as Bhopal Singh from Murlipur village, Billu and Rakesh from Surkhpur village. The sarpanch and the lawyer (yet to be identified) were travelling in the pickup. The critically injured driver, Shamsher Singh, is a resident of Siha village," said the officer.
