AIADMK ties up with CPI-M too for general elections
03-February-2014
A day after announcing an alliance with the CPI for the upcoming general elections, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Monday said her AIADMK has also joined hands with the CPI-M.
She made the announcement after meeting Communist Party of India-Marxist general secretary Prakash Karat and other party leaders here.
Speaking to reporters, Jayalalithaa said the alliance is expected to be successful and it is not the time to discuss who the next prime minister would be as that question would arise only after the election results.
Karat said this alliance would ensure success in Tamil Nadu and contribute to government formation at the centre.
He said discussions are on with other parties to join the alliance.
On Sunday, Jayalalithaa announced her party's alliance with the Communist Party of India (CPI).
She then said the present aim was to win all the 40 seats (39 in Tamil Nadu and one in Puducherry) in the elections and the election plank will be peace, prosperity and progress. - IANS
