04-December-2018
A 40-year-old woman was found dead in north-east Kolkata's Raghunathpur area, police said on Tuesday, adding her husband has been taken into custody.
"Based on a complaint lodged by Antara Acharya's family members on Monday, her husband Surojit Sarkar has been arrested for abetting suicide. Sarkar had taken her body to a nearby hospital, saying she had committed suicide by hanging," said a Baguiati police station officer.
He said the woman's parents have stated in the complaint that their daughter was tortured mentally and physically post her marriage in 2006. The couple was childless for which their relationship was disturbed.
However, another person who was known to Antara is being questioned.
"We are questioning another person, whom Antara had contacted several times before the incident. The Post-mortem report will shed light on the cause of death," police said.-IANS
