Delhi seat reservation proposal anti-migrant: Nirupam
11-January-2014
A proposal by Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia to reserve 90 percent seats in Delhi University's colleges for local students is "anti-migrant", says Congress MP from north Mumbai Sanjay Nirupam.
"Your proposal to reserve 90 percent seats in all fully-funded colleges of Delhi University for students of Delhi alone smacks of an anti-migrant mindset which will harm the cosmopolitan character of this great city, which is also the national education hub," Nirupam said in his letter - dated Jan 7 - to Sisodia.
Noting only 90,000 out of the 2.65 lakh students who pass out from Delhi schools manage to get into Delhi graduation colleges, Sisodia proposed 90 percent seats be reserved for Delhi residents in institutions fully funded by the Delhi government.
There are 12 colleges under Delhi University that are funded by the government. - IANS
