PMK takes on Vijay for smoking scenes in Sarkar
09-November-2018
The Vijay starrer ‘Sarkar’, which has drawn flak from the ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, whose cadre went on a rampage in many parts of the state pulling down hoardings of the film, is now being targeted by the PMK.
The ruling party is alleging that the film has targeted some of the flagship welfare schemes of the government. According to reports, the film contains scenes where people are burning fans, and grinders, which the state government has been distributing free to the people of Tamil Nadu as part of its social schemes.
AIADMK leaders, including some ministers, have asked for removing certain scenes in the film. Reports suggest that the makers of the film have agreed to either mute or modify the controversial portions in the film.
While some of the opposition leaders have expressed solidarity with Vijay, PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss lashed out at the actor for his lack of social responsibility in a statement, which pointed out that the film has 22 scenes where the hero is shown smoking cigarettes.
Ramadoss wondered if Vijay and director A R Murugadoss had inserted the smoking scenes in the film after taking money from the cigarette companies, which have been prohibited from issuing commercial advertisements in the country.
The PMK had also raised objections back in June when the first look poster of the film was released that showed actor Vijay lighting a cigarette. – TWL Bureau
